Jimmy Williamson, MDA Professional Group, P.C., has completed his term as AICPA chair in 2006-07.
Williamson
has been active in the AICPA since 1992, when
he was elected to the Governing Council.
He has also served two three-year terms as a
Council Member-at-Large. Williamson is best known
for his work, beginning in 1997, on the National
CPA Vision Team.
Williamson
focused on helping to make the AICPA as effective and as responsive
as possible in serving members’ diverse
needs as well as to continue work to elevate
the American public’s understanding of
financial matters. In his year
as Chairman of the AICPA, he also worked to create the website known as "Feed the Pig" () which is focused on the
financial literacy needs of those Americans between the ages of 25 to 34 year olds.
Williamson's other major contribution to the AICPA
and the CPA profession has been his involvement with the AICPA's 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy. He was asked to become a member of the AICPA's Financial Literacy Commission back in 2004
when it was first created. He chaired the Grassroots Moblization Team which was responsible for
getting all the state societies on board with one big national effort focused on improving
the financial literacy of the American public. This goal was accomplished by 2006.
"Looking back now and all that has occured in the financial markets and subprime
mortgages
in 2008 and 2009,
it is clear to me we were ahead of the curve back in
2004 but still too late to
make a major difference. However;
Financial Literacy and trying to educate all Americans to make better and informed financial decisions is still my major passion and professional commitment.
How better
to protect the interest of the American public which is the core mission of the
CPA profession."
A graduate of Jacksonville State University,
Williamson worked for 7 years as an IRS agent
and pension plan specialist for the Internal
Revenue Service before joining MDA Professional
Group, P.C. as manager in the Fort Payne office
in 1977. He became a partner in 1980.
MDA
Professional Group, P.C. is the largest
privately owned accounting firm in Northern Alabama.
The firm has five offices and over 110 staff.
The firm has been an active and contributing
member of AGN since 1986.
Williamson
is the second AGN-NA member to reach the AICPA’ chairmanship. Bob
Israeloff,
of former member firm Israeloff, Trattner & Co.,
