Principal at Windham Brannon, P.C. in Atlanta, Denise Mummert served as the president of the Georgia Society of CPAs for 2005-2006. She has served the society in many different capacities, and received the GSCPA's Distinguised Member Award in 1994.

Denise follows in the footsteps of three society past presidents from her firm - Ben W. Brannon, William J. Bomar and Carolyn C. Riticher.

"I have been active with the society for over 20 years and I was very intersted in leading the organization," she told the Atlanta Business Chronicle during a recent interview. "The profession has given a lot to me and I needed to give back to my profession."

During her term as society president, Denise emphasized the need to secure the future of the profession. "The biggest challenge of the industry is finding enough qualified young people who want to become CPAs," she said.

The Georgia Society works to encourage students to pursue a career in accounting and offers scholarships, education programs, a residency program and mentoring. Denise said accounting enrollment has been up over the past couple of years. She continues to develop future leaders from the 22 chapters around the state. Although her term ended at the end of June, 2006, she continues her involvement with the organization.

Denise is also serving on the Council of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Her term ends in October 2009.

Denise is also determined to teach the public about financial literacy.

"There has been so much difficulty with financial literacy because of the amount of consumer debt, low levels of saving and increased fuel costs putting pressure on family budgets. There is a great need for the public to better understand how to manage their money," she states.
