AGN International - North America
hosts annual worldwide meeting of members in Chicago
Aurora, CO --The world-famous Drake Hotel, in downtown Chicago, was the headquarters for three days of collaboration among AGN International members at the annual World Congress, held October 16-20, 2009. Purpose of the Congress, which is held in North America every three years, is to give members an opportunity for greater confidence when referring clients.
AGN International, Ltd., (www.agn.org), is an international association of 197 independent accounting firms with offices in 90 countries around the world. AGN was formed in 1996 to assist members’ accounting clients to conduct business globally.
Ninety-five AGN members – representing CPA and accounting firms from 28 countries around the globe -- gathered for information-sharing on technical and client service topics of interest to member accounting professionals.
Of those 95, 52 members represented the North American region (www.agn-na.org) of AGN, which is composed of 52 CPA and accounting firms in the US, Mexico and Canada. The AGN North American Board also met during the Congress and elected the following officers to serve on the NA region’s Executive Committee for the next 12 months:
Chair – Gary Fitzgibbon, Adams & Miles, LLP, Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Vice Chair/Chair Elect – Warren Barnes, Kernutt Stokes Brandt & Co., LLP, Eugene, Oregon
Treasurer – Bill Goodman, Schenck SC, Appleton, WI
Secretary – Steve Doherty, Cowan, Bolduc, Doherty & Company, L.L.C, North Andover, MA
Immediate Past Chair – Charlie McGimsey, Windham Brannon & P.C., CPAs, , Atlanta, GA
All five regions – Europe, South America, North America, West Asia and Africa and Asia Pacific – were represented at the meeting.
Among the World Congress speakers were Bel Needles, PhD., who spoke on the proposed conversion to international accounting standards, Allan Koltin, well-known US consultant to the accounting profession, Steven M.R. Covey, author of “Leading at the Speed of Trust”, US technology guru, Roman Kepczyk, and Duane “Digger” Carey, a US astronaut who piloted the space shuttle on a mission to the Hubble telescope in 2001.
AGN members who also presented included Liam McQuaid, of Duignan Carthy O’Neill, Dublin, Ireland, Bob Elliott,, of Hall Chadwick, Sydney, Australia, Ricky Wong, Wong Brothers, Hong Kong, China, Horst Schaffer, Schaffer & Partner, Nuremberg, Germany, Jim Carulas, Meaden & Moore, L.L.P., Cleveland, OH, Randy Redwitz, Robert R. Redwitz & Co., Irvine, CA, and Steve Kass, Rothstein, Kass & Co., New York, New York.
International members elected Jim Carulas, managing partner of Meaden & Moore, L.L.P. to chair its nine-member international Board of Directors for the next two years. Carulas succeeds Esther Tan, of GEP Associates, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who served as chair since 2007. Francois Martin, of Caderas Martin S.A., Paris, France, was elected as vice-chair.
AGN’s international headquarters are in London, England, with North American headquarters in Denver, CO. The 2010 World Congress will be held in Lisbon, Portugal on September 27-28.
